ARTIST STATEMENT My art practice is heavily inspired by street art which can have the capacity to infiltrate a personal narrative into public space. These encounters have prompted me to contemplate how such marks of human touch, often ignored by an area’s inhabitants, develop into an experiential vocabulary that can transform our perceptions of public space. Digital media tools including video installations, graphic projection and large format digital printing present me with the capability to process my ideas into fruition and through these tools my art practice takes the form from subtle intervention to gallery based installation. I am especially drawn to areas of the world that have the capacity to evoke subliminal feelings of disquiet and turmoil. My work recreates the process of intuitively navigating these public spaces and experiencing the reallocation of disordered physical environments. Subtle strategies of intervention take commonplace tokens of memory, such as postcards or snapshots, and transform them into biographic imagery that records my private presence in these exposed locations.
